Quick answer

23 reported mutations — two vials apply one, the rest say you were born with it

The community wiki lists twenty-three mutations, and fourteen of them say the avatar was born with the trait or was born in a named region. The two documented ways to apply one on purpose are a Random Mutation Vial at 10 Cores and a Height Vial at 4 Cores.

Evidence boundary: Every mutation name and every number on this page comes from one player-maintained source: the Fandom Harp Isles wiki Mutations page, read on 2026-09-23 (that page was last edited 2026-09-19). The only two facts here that a second source also shows are the price of a Random Mutation Vial and the fact that a vial is how you apply one. This site has never equipped a mutation and measured it, so no number below is an observed value, and the game was updated on 2026-09-20, after the community page was written.

Use the table below to recognise a row you already have, not as a price list. Only two of the numbers here — the Random Mutation Vial and the Height Vial — are corroborated by anything other than the community page.

Reported list

Every mutation, its stat line and where it comes from

Names, descriptions and numbers are from the community wiki page read 2026-09-23. The Where it comes from column repeats what that page states, and says Not stated where it states nothing.

Read the Where it comes from column before the effect column. Fourteen of the twenty-three rows say the avatar was born in a named region or born with the trait, which makes them a character you rolled rather than something you buy. The community vial page documents a shop route for two of them instead: a Random Mutation Vial applies a random mutation for 10 Cores, and a Height Vial applies Height for 4 Cores.

Applying one

Two documented routes, and only one of them costs Cores

This is the part players actually search for, and it is also where the two sources are weakest. Both routes below are written with the source next to them.

Rolled at birth

Fourteen rows on the community list say the avatar was born with the trait or was born in a named region — marshland, snowy, swamp, Bloodshroum, volcanic, sandy, plains, plateau, woodlands, rocky, or a colder climate. That framing makes those rows something you roll rather than something you buy, and it is the reason a mutation is not the same purchase decision as a chip.

Applied from a vial

The community vial page lists a Random Mutation Vial that applies a random mutation to your creature for 10 Cores, and a Height Vial that applies the Height mutation for 4 Cores. Our own recording of the Cores shop from 2026-09-07 shows a row named Random Mutation at 10 Cores, which is the only corroboration on this page. The same recording shows the nest upgrade panel carrying a Mutation stat of its own.

Cores are the currency behind both vials. Where Cores come from, and what else they buy, is on the items and rewards reference. The chip that grants a mutation rather than a stat line is on the chips page, and the species a mutation sits on top of is on the creature reference.

Where our sources disagree

Three rows we cannot reconcile

Written down instead of smoothed over. Applying a vial once and reading your own stat panel settles all three.

Seastrider has three readings and two sets of numbers

The community chip page describes Swimchip as doubling oxygen; the community mutation page lists Seastrider as +40 swim speed and +40 max oxygen; our own chips page repeated the chip page as +40% speed in water. Nothing we hold measured it. Treat the number as unverified and check your own stat panel after applying anything.

Height is a stat row and a size row

The mutation table lists Height as +3 damage, +3 health, −2 walk speed and −4 sprint speed. The vial page says a Height Vial makes the creature 7% taller. Those are two different claims about one mutation, and the 7% figure never appears in the stat row.

Mossy and Eroded are identical rows

Mossy (born in the marshland region) and Eroded (born in a rocky region) both read +8 weight and −5 sprint speed. Either the region wording is cosmetic or one of the two rows was copied without being edited. The community table does not say which.

Scope

What this page does not claim

Footage this page is checked against: Ultimate Guide! (Late Kate, recorded 2026-09-07) — the Cores shop row named Random Mutation, and the nest upgrade stats · Avatar Shards, Deathcaps, NPCS, Smelting, Forging (The Hissy Missy, recorded 2026-08-30). Community pages read 2026-09-23: https://harp-isles.fandom.com/wiki/Mutations and https://harp-isles.fandom.com/wiki/Vials Spotted a mutation that is missing, or rolled one whose numbers disagree with the table? Say so on the contact page and the row gets corrected rather than quietly dropped.

FAQ

Mutation questions players actually ask

What are mutations in Harp Isles?

They are stat modifiers attached to a living avatar. The community wiki lists twenty-three of them, and most change weight, speed, armor, health, damage, oxygen or flight and dive speed. They are not the same thing as a subspecies or an Apex form, which the community pages treat as a named identity rather than a modifier.

How do you get a mutation in Harp Isles?

Two routes are documented, and only one of them is a purchase. Most rows on the community list say the avatar was born with the trait or born in a named region, so they are rolled rather than bought. The other route is a vial: the community vial page says a Random Mutation Vial applies a random mutation to your creature for 10 Cores, and a Height Vial applies the Height mutation for 4 Cores.

How much does a Random Mutation Vial cost?

10 Cores. That is the one number on this page with two independent readings: the community vial page states 10 Cores, and our own recording of the Cores shop from 2026-09-07 shows a row named Random Mutation at 10 Cores. The same recording shows the nest upgrade panel carrying a Mutation stat of its own, so vials are not the only place the word appears.

Is a mutation the same as a subspecies or an Apex?

No. The community pages use subspecies and Apex names as an identity you unlock or apply, and mutations as a modifier sitting on top of whatever species you already have. If you are deciding between the two, the species side is on the creature reference and the modifier side is this page.

Can you remove or reroll a mutation?

Unknown. Nothing we read shows a mutation being taken off an avatar, replaced by another, or surviving a death, and nothing shows what a second Random Mutation Vial does to an avatar that already has one.

Is the Obsidian mutation the same as obsidian the material?

No. They share a word and nothing else. Obsidian the mutation is a birth-region stat row (+5 armor, −2 sprint speed). Obsidian the material is the gathered resource that drops from cube-shaped black boulders in the volcano region and feeds the smelter recipes on the items and rewards page.
